After receiving the B.A. in biology from St. Louis (Mo.) University in 1977, Dr. Kokocki was an M.S. candidate in biochemistry at DePaul University, Chicago, from 1977-79 before earning the M.D. at the St. George's University School of Medicine, Grenada, West Indies, in 1983. He did a year of residency training at the Sisters of Charity Hospital, Buffalo, N.Y., from 1983-84; a general surgery residency at the Methodist Hospital, Brooklyn, N.Y., from 1984-89, where he was chief resident from 1988-99; and a cardiovascular and thoracic surgery residency at the Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, N.C., from 1990-93, where he was chief resident from 1992-93.
